The Leith Medical plate is a true technological breakthrough with regards to fixation in Charcot reconstructive surgery. The plate provides surgeons an optimized fixation option when reconstructing challenging Charcot arthropathy patients... With hybrid compression and locking technology, the Leith Medical plate allows multiple joint fixation at large angulation with preservation of compressive forces, without the risk of screw and plate failure due to back out, something which is a significant concern in these cases. Additionally, this hybrid system eliminates the need for a completely locked construct, which is subpar for healing. Retained micromotion improves osseous healing and consolidation. Lastly, the hybrid technology allows smooth contour of the plate to patient specific anatomy, while preserving soft tissue structures such as the anterior tibial tendon, in large part due to the low profile and lack of screw head prominence. In short, other fixation systems on the market currently require some degree of compromise with regards to compression versus locking constructs, and thus have shortcomings and failure risks as a result.
